If you have been wondering why I do beauty pageants, I want to make some things clear.

I know there are a lot of viewpoints about this world. Some people see the bikini contests, the vanity, the competition, and I understand that point of view. But not all pageants are like that. The pageants I participate in are conservative. I will not wear a bikini. I wear fitness wear, or other clothes that honor God and feel right to me.

And in this pageant world, I have met some of the most wonderful, driven, talented, incredible women. Pastors, doctors, women who are in their communities helping others. This is a world of women who lift each other up.

Here is why I do it.

First, it lets me reach more girls and tell them they are beautiful just the way they are. That is the heart of my ministry, Primera Belleza: to speak about God and to share my story of how He healed me from cancer.

Second, it grows me as a person. It teaches me poise and how to communicate. It is self-development.

Third, I want to show women going through breast cancer, homelessness, or any difficult part of life that there is nothing God cannot do. He can rebuild you. I have been through six years. I lost my breast. I lost my eyebrows. I lost my eyelashes. I had to shave my head twice. And I am here to tell them: you can be strong, you can walk up on a stage, and you can give God the glory.

That is why I do beauty pageants.
